The North East golf programs are no strangers to success but the dominance of the teams and individuals this past weekend was record setting. The girls team struck gold first with a dominating performance over state runner-up Hickory, earning them the D10 title and a trip to the Western Region playoff. The boys were next on the tee box with a workmanlike effort let by seasoned veterans Isaiah Swan and Carter Hassenplug as they outdistanced a competitive Corry team by twenty strokes to stake their claim to D10 gold. Team members for the boys included Cole Lanahan, Ryan Hathaway and Elliott Heinrich. Finally, the top of both the boys and girls medal stand was represented by brother and sister stars Isaiah and Lydia Swan. It was the third such title for Lydia and a first for Isaiah. Striking silver were freshman sensation Anna Swan and for the boys, it was two time D10 champion Carter Hassenplug. All four punched their tickets to the PIAA State Championships October 19th and 20th while the team competition will get underway on October 26th. It really doesn’t get any better than this. The Lady Pickers are coached by Mark Hughes while the boys are coached by Troy Hassenplug. Congratulations and good luck at the PIAA Championships!
