Baseball Team Secures Region 4 Championship

Led by a core group of Seniors, littered with underclassmen stepping up in big ways this year, the North East Grapepickers rolled to the 2018 Region 4 Championship.  “ We raised our team batting average over 60 points from last year, and scored 30 more runs than last year(playing 3 less games). I wanted to put an emphasis on quality at bats and aggressive base running this year, and the kids really bought in”.  “It’s a true team effort, we do not have the numbers that some of these other schools have that we compete with(17 players), so we have to rely on our group as a whole, and not just individual talent.”   Offensively, North East was led by 5 players hitting over .300 on the year (Christian Dombrowiak, Aiden Kemp, Nathan Nelson, Jake Kraemer, Colin Watts)  On the mound Colin Watts( 5-1 2.00 ERA) and Sumner Henry (2-1, 1SV 4.19 ERA) racked up 7 of the Grapepickers 8 Wins.   Jake Kraemer, Nathan Nelson, Dillon Schnars and Brandon Perez all put solid work on the mound to help the Grapepickers battle through region play. ( Sophmores James Piersol and Miles Henry, along with Freshman Michael Carlo wreaked havoc on the base paths all year and really put the pressure on the other team)  “ The year had plenty of ups and downs, but the goal of a championship was set back in February and these kids kept pushing toward that goal”. North East will start District 10 Playoffs on Monday May 21st vs. familiar foe Mercyhurst Prep at 1:00 pm at Northwestern High School. Good luck boys!
