Muscarella Qualifies for Northwest Region Tournament

Senior wrestler Dylan Muscarella battled a loaded 152# weight class at the District 10 tournament this past weekend to secure a qualifying spot at the Northwest Region tournament. Muscarella placed 4th on the podium after losing in the quarterfinal bout to Gage Musser of Commodore Perry by the score 5-1. Dylan then battled back through the consolation bracket to earn a rematch with Musser in the consolation finals. Muscarella dropped the second match by a closer 3-2 margin. The Northwest Region tournament takes place at Sharon High School this Friday and Saturday. The top four placewinners will earn a spot to Hershey and the PIAA State Wrestling Championships.

Muscarella Crowned Section 1 Champion

Senior wrestler, Dylan Muscarella, was atop the medal stand at the Section 1 tournament this past weekend. Muscarella won the 152 pound class with a dominating 7-3 effort over Esteban Waldman of Union City. Waldman was the #1 seeded wrestler in the weight class going into the finals. Muscarella netted three takedowns and an escape to win gold. Dylan will head to Sharon High School this weekend to try and claim a D10 title. Congratulations and good luck!

Seevers Headed to D10 Diving Competition

Sophomore diver Jenna Seevers will be headed to the District 10 Diving Championships this Friday at McDowell High School. Seevers, who sports a tumbling background from gymnastics, is a contender to make it to the state meet in just her second season on the board. Jenna also splits time between diving and her other high flying passion, which is competitive cheer. Jenna is a member of the Step One Phenomenal competitive cheer team out of Chesterland Ohio. The team has won National Championship honors this past year and will be headed to the World Championships this April in Orlando. Congratulations and good luck!

Keith and Muscarella Tagged for Athlete of the Week Voting

Senior basketball standout Marissa Keith has once again been nominated for Goerie.com “Athlete of the Week.” Keith is no stranger to the voting and was nominated for her 20 point performance in a come from behind victory of the Northwestern Wildcats on February 11th. Joining Keith in the voting is senior wrestler Dylan Muscarella. Muscarella was nominated for his gold medal performance in the 152# weight class at the Section 1 tournament this past weekend. Basketball Playoff Updates

The post season is down one team as the Picker boys basketball team dropped their opening playoff game against Greenville on Friday night by a 63-49 margin. The Pickers got off to a slow start but closed to within 5 pts towards the end of the game but ultimately failed to capitalize on Trojan turnovers. The Pickers were led by sophomore Garrett Hein with 19 points while Alex Furmanek added 16. The girls basketball team will take center court on Saturday, February 23rd at Meadville High School to take on the Lady Sailors of Lakeview. Game time is 2:30 pm. Good luck!

Let the Post Season Begin!

As the regular season comes to a close, the winter sports teams are all preparing for the District 10 playoffs. The varsity wrestlers are headed to Meadville on Friday, February 15th for their sectional tournament. This year’s tournament will be just one of two sections which will increase the number of teams but also provide additional opportunities to qualify for the district tournament. The boys basketball team will be headed to Greenville High School on Friday, February 15th to take on the Trojans in the first round of AAA action. Game time is 7:00 pm. The girls basketball team has a bye in the opening round of competition but will play Lakeview in the quarter final round of action. A time and place has yet to be decided. Finally, the swimmers and divers are headed to McDowell High School for the “Last Chance Meet” which allows swimmers one final opportunity to qualify for the district meet at the Spire Center in Geneva, Ohio on March 1st and 2nd. The divers will compete in district competition on February 22nd and 23rd at McDowell High School. Good luck to all participants and Go Pickers!

Currier and Furmanek in Athlete of the Week Voting

Junior swimmer Elizabeth Currier has been selected as one of the individuals listed for the Goerie.com “Athlete of the Week” voting. Currier amassed four first place finishes in the region meet versus Corry and helped the Lady Pickers to a 120-47 victory. Along with Currier, Alex Furmanek was picked as a Goerie.com standout for his team leading 18 point effort in an exciting win over rival Seneca.  The Pickers beat the Bobcats 55-42 in a solid effort heading into the playoffs.
